How are we going to assign quadrants actually? Will there be a preliminary opening to wander around and choose a quadrant of your liking? Will players be assigned a specific faction or will we all be free to choose? Is it possible that people may defect to other quads? I'm very interested in the logistics of this thing. Will formal borders be drawn up (e.g. fences or some other block marking the borders etc.)? I can't wait to see how we do this I'd say a wool line to start with, then a coloured wall as factions get more items?

Well Felix or RG could probably make the command blocks do that. If we go ahead with this I'm sure they could do it.

It would have to be on some sort of timer though because if it were based on crossing a border you know certain people would just go back and forth over the border to troll everybody with automated message spam. I won't say any names... but I don't want you to get the wrong idea, it isn't because I don't want to call anyone out.... it's because there would be too many names to type

Yeah good make it whisper them when they get killed by a player "By the way, you weren't in your zone you fuck."

I think the important thing here is to set up an effective shop at spawn. If your Quadrant has unique biomes like Ice Spike, Mesa, or a set of forest not on the map elsewhere like Jungle or Roofed, then selling wood or other items could be good. The last note for the map is not to gather resources from other quadrants. It kind of makes it important to protect saplings so you can keep a long-term business plan. I want this rule to be taken seriously though so we have to interact with each other.
Our server has very little trading and when we do it's usually just a formality to pay because all of the resources are shared and what you're really paying for is just the convenience of not doing it yourself. We usually only have one or two shops at spawn, but they aren't used as often as they could be because the trek to spawn and then payment is usually too much of a hassle. I'm hoping that keeping resources split will kind of force trades. Nations shouldn't be stingey though because the point isn't for one Nation to hold resources hostage, especially if they are the only Nation with something like an Ice Spike biome, but it's more or less a responsibility of the nation to take advantage of their biomes. With this setup it also gives those unique saplings incredible value. Trading 1 sapling could be a huge trade costing many diamond blocks. The ole "Give a man a fish" quote rings true here.
I think I may write another phrase "Building or Breaking blocks in another Quadrant is only Authorized during Assaults for the purpose of entering a fort or building" so if Nations wanted, they could build walls on the borders of their quadrant as a means of protection. If that is allowed then perhaps a minimum distance of 30 or 50 blocks from the 0 X,Y Axis will be required, so as Ard wanted "wastelands" between quadrants, there would be a 60-100 block wasteland between walls of Quadrants. The distance from the X,Y Axis will allow each Quadrant to be able to make their own walls with their own building style, so it's not a shared border wall that one Nation will be mad about.
I wonder if there is a way to program command blocks so that redstone switches (buttons, levers) can only be triggered by certain teams in certain areas, so if there are walls put up then the host Nation can use doors but any intruders may not.
Any thoughts on this?

First of all let's not make it overcomplicated. If you want I can make a post with what we have so far and use this as a brainstorm thread. The idea is pretty good but, let's take it into consideration when we generate a map. Also, let's make it so that you can't loot for example jungle saplings when on a raid?

Have we addressed the concept of quadrant loyalties? What would stop someone defecting to another quadrant because it suits them better? How will quadrants be assigned?

This sounds like the best idea ever! I am totally in. I imagine if two neighboring quadrants have friendly relations they could also create a demilitarized town on their border.
So if someone sucks at pvp they could build their home within spawntown and would not be subject to the raids? I am really looking forward to this. I'm assuming there will also be a spawntown nether hub, but what about assults within the nether? I know there wouldn't be much raiding to do there, but what if someone built a nether town?
Definitely a few days, maybe a week after the new map opens before anyone can raid/assult, get things established first.

Or, just throwing a suggestion out, a weekly raid? Like, you don't have to join but just so that you don't have raids all the time.
