I've only been here for a few hours really, and I'm already making suggestions! Look at me being productive!
How about we use a different program than skype for voice communications? Hosting a call in skype for major events is just a disaster. Skype wasn't made for large groups of people using the voicechat. And I know I prefer talking over typing things out.
I got 4 programs we can use, and there's a few pro's and cons to each of them, though I can not think of all of them. I'll list the programs from the one I've used most often to the one I've never used.
Dolby Axon: It's free, easy to use, server hosting is free, I know my way around so I can troubleshoot quite easily with this one. You need an account for it though.
TeamSpeak: Almost everyone knows of this one, it's quite easy to set up if you just read what's going on. Server hosting isn't free to my knowledge.
Mumble: I only used this for a little while before my group switched over to Dolby Axon. as a consequence, I don't know much about this one either.
Ventrillo: I actually don't know a lot about this one. Never used it, but it's highly regarded by most of the people I spoke with about these things in the past.
How about it? Discuss and leave replies down below!

I like team speak because sometimes skype makes me lag, and also i think we can get a free TS server with 32 slots

I personally use Mumble. Its free and open source but its a bit more complicated to set up then teamspeak.

It'd be good to get more opinions on this. I'll just follow the crowd!

I know from experience that Dolby Axon is /very/ light weight. Even that Australian friend I mentioned in the OP sounded crystal clear, even though his internet line wasn't the best (it actually rusted somewhere, go figure).

I've always run mumble, seems like a solid program and the setup isn't as bad as some make it out to be. I'm also another skype hater.

I'd also say either TS or Mumble. Typing responses can be a bit difficult while exploring and finding an overhang with a good 20 mobs under it.

Just noticed, the mumble page linked up top is for a host. The actual mumble website is mumble.info/ which doesnt do hosting but offers client and server software.

I'm up for anything that's free and doesn't have ads. Never really got along with Skype.
