It seems like you're saying each player is only able to sell one type of item, and only pay other players with that type of item. And that seems incredibly skewed and complicated to me. Why can't a seller just list what they're accepting as payment on a sign or in a book? That way both parties are satisfied and getting something they actually need rather than the seller receiving mystery items with an arbitrary value set to them they possibly won't need or want at all.

I seem to recall Jman having a bookshop a couple of maps ago - I definitely think that if people want to use a currency system then they should build a proper shop, and people who'd rather barter for goods use the trading post. Ok now I'm getting confused! 1)Big shops on outer ring for specialised things like building services, railroad construction, interior decorating? Etc Payed for with normally diamonds or whatever seller wants? 2)Small stalls in middle? No one seems to be sure? Are these for a single item I.e gravel? Or multiple items like a shop and again payed for with diamonds or whatever seller wants? 3)Now we mention bartering in the trading post? Is this the build someone has made next to the sea named "trading post"? That's really not understandable and seems to have someone living in the basement with chests and stuff? What will happen here? I.e a book saying I would like xxxxx and someone reads it and says I'll get that for you and will cost xxxxx again normally diamonds or whatever seller wants? So another shop? Just a little clarification would be nice as such a simple idea of a market to fill a space left by destroying crispon base is turning into a monster which no one understands and will if not sorted drive people away from spawn rather than attract them!

That was my mistake - I didn't mean the existing trading post. I was referring to the market stalls.

To summarise what I was saying - custom-built shops for commerce, market stalls for goods trading/bartering.

ohai o/
so I've just been thinking about how to get the best use out of the stalls because in all honesty, if I'm at my base and you're at yours, you ask me to trade some potatoes for carpet and I agree, are we really going to walk all the way to spawn just to trade? most trades I've done take place in the nether.
Having said that though, it would be cool to make use of the builds. So I was thinking what if we have a farmers market regularly before/after weekly server events? where interested vendors can book a stall and sell/trade their wares while the community peruses. the plus side to this is that rather than having a set building dedicated to selling a particular type of item, the stall system could be flexible enough to sell anything. so say I have a podzol shop, but earlier this week I found a mooshroom cow. I could book a stall for the Sunday market, trolley along me cow named Laquisha, milk her udders for nutritious mushroom stew and sell them at an ingot a pop. or maybe I came across an ice spike biome earlier in the week and after building with them, I only have two spare stacks I want to offer. will I build a shop? no sir! Weekly market!
A regular market could allow people to sell/trade what they have an excess amount of, rather than making an entire building dedicated to selling it if there is a limited stock.
Food for thought. if this is the wrong post to write this in then i apologise half-heartedly. If this has been posted by someone else already then super! but I didn't read your post. yay community!!

I guess we got a few options 1) we could do it at a time where on average the most people are on 2) we could have 2 time slots open for the market. One for the Europeans, Asians, and Africans and one for North America, South America, and Australia
I also suggest doing it at night and not morning cause most people are going to play at night after work and any other things they had going on.

I meant Sunday morning for me but failed to realise what that meant for everyone else XD My Sunday or Saturday mornings seem to be when there are server events, I was thinking that may be a good time since there are lots of people around
